One person in a state of complacency. Not truly happy but making the choice to stay in the comfortable place they have created for themselves. Like a warm cocoon but without the hope of future wings.
The other with a strong inner drive, continually striving for more…something greater. But in so doing, failing to appreciate what’s right in front of them. Allowing precious moments to simply slip through their fingers like soft sand in the breeze.
Alter-self exclaims, “Oh, how sweet it would be if these two common life conditions could marry. Therein would lay true happiness!”
The two friends turned and looked at me with stunned, somewhat irritated looks upon their faces. Apparently I said this aloud. Ooops.
But I stand by my observation.
I believe happiness lies in the place where you can simultaneously take steps toward achieving your dreams while still fully appreciating exactly where you are at this moment in time.
Where are you in this life condition continuum?
- Are you complacent? Knowing you could have, do, or be more but not willing to become uncomfortable enough to do what needs to be done to get there?
- Are you in perpetual motion driving toward a goal and failing to see that it’s all about the journey?
- Or have you found that place of balance and joy …right in the middle?
Action Step: If your answer was closer to complacency pick one positive action today that makes you at least a little afraid. If your answer was closer to perpetual motion, stop. Find a moment today to stop, breathe, and think of all in your life for which you are grateful.
