Tick, Tick, Tick….

But what minutes!  Count them by sensation, and not by calendars, and each moment is a day.  ~Benjamin Disraeli

I’m thinking of time…precious, precarious, pressing, and potential itself.

How often do we lose track of it?  Do we blame it for our inability to produce?  Do we long for more of it?  And yet waste it endlessly??

Recently time, and my dependence upon it, has caught my breath with the strength of its lessons.

My father recently passed away.  It’s not that he was taken from me in a shocking, tragic blow like the angelic children in Newtown, CT.  His death was anticipated to a degree in the weary, waning illness of deterioration.  Most could see the benefit in his ascension to a better, painless place.

But sitting by his bed my sadness came in the realization that he didn’t, and most don’t, fully live the healthy moments of life.  Lesson 1- Breathe into the moments of life a childlike sense of appreciation and joy.

The second message of timely wisdom comes from my children.

There is a direct correlation between the amount of work distractions that occur and a child’s capacity for mischief and mayhem.  When I am careless with my time creating additional work in the evenings my children are known to argue, whine, and complain incessantly.  But when I can focus on them at a different level…everything changes.  A sense of calm, humor induced love and appreciation permeates the home.  We laugh, we hug, we love.  Lesson 2- People beat systems every time.  When in doubt put aside everything and look at, be with the person in front of you fully.

It’s time.  Time for you to be you fully.  Time to be with those you love fully.  Time to embrace each moment…all together now….”Fully!”

Action Step:  Which lesson is most applicable for you today?  Do you need more fun, more life in your life?  Or do you need more connection in your relationships?  Time is a beautiful, astounding gift.  Don’t waste a single, precious second.
