Have you ever met someone who owns their own business and thought “I’ve always wanted to do that”? Ever wished you could travel or learn something new? Have you ever met someone you thought was wildly attractive, thought about connecting, and then lost your nerve? Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror at the end of a mindless or stressful day and said “Is this all there is?”
I’ve found that many people come to me for coaching because they have a dream, a wish, a goal, an idea….but are frustrated with their inability to take action.
Action is imperative to growth, success, and enjoying the journey fully.
Let me give you an example of the power of action. Most are familiar with ‘pay it forward’. You’ve seen the movie…or are familiar with the idea of doing a random act of kindness and wanting the receiver to do something for someone else. But how many of us take action on this concept regularly??
I’ve recently partnered with the Pay It Forward Experience and now give away their bracelets in my workshops and keynotes to encourage people to take action. When you do a random act of kindness, in addition to doing the kind act, you give them a bracelet.
People are taken back when you do something kind for them. Something additional occurs when you give them a bracelet. A light goes on in their eyes. They have been called to action. They now have the bracelet, wear it, and every time they see it they are reminded to do an act of kindness. And when they do, they pass that call to action forward.
Isn’t that far more powerful than an idea you can simply think about or discuss?
So what is the ‘call to action’ for your dream?? How can you turn your ideas and intentions into concrete, life changing actions?
Is there research you can do? A mentor you can contact? Calls to prospective clients you can make? Don’t get bogged down in the details of perfection. Get inspired…then take action.
- Get very clear about what you want to accomplish- much easier to prioritize and take action on a goal that is clearly and specifically laid out.
- Understand that doing amazing things takes courage. Don’t be afraid to fail. Be afraid of never taking a chance.
- Take action every day. Some days you’ll be making big strides. Other days you will only have time for one or two high priority items. If you have a list of short, easy activities to reach your (specific and highly clarified) goals you can still take action and move forward.
- Celebrate your successes to encourage future actions!
“An idea that remains inactive is in the mind or at best in the heart. Action is what will move an idea of the heart to realization and fulfillment.” From Heather’s new book Find Your Fire at Forty (http://www.fireinfive.com/book.html)
