“I don’t have time!”
“I’m just too tired after a long day’s work.”
“There aren’t enough hours in the day.”
“Where does the time go?”
“Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that is the stuff life is made of.”
Ok, ok…that last one was Ben Franklin. But have you ever found yourself saying something similar to the first few quotes?
I know I have. And I have definitely heard them a few too many times from people I come in contact with. For some reason the biggest excuses in life have to do with time.
I think that’s a bunch of baloney!
We all have the same amount of time. Some of us make better use of it than others. Why are some people wildly successful in accomplishing what they desire while others are continually behind and lacking? Time management has a lot to do with it.
The actual term ‘time management’ is mildly irritating to me. It’s overused with limited true understanding. To conserve a few moments of your precious time I won’t go into all the details or definitions of time management. I’ll leave it as ‘the ability to use the time you have to accomplish your most important things.’
Let’s break that down-
‘The ability to use the time you have’ = understand that we all have 24 hours, that’s 1440 minutes, only 86,400 seconds… in a day. What are you doing with your hours? Are you making an impact on the world? Are you doing things that bring you great joy?
‘…to accomplish your most important things.’ = Time often gets away from us. We get called to do things that are important to others but contribute in no way to our goals and dreams. We get asked to do more than ever before. And everything is packaged as “Urgent!” The first step is understanding the problem. Are you working towards Your objectives?? Most people are working toward someone else’s goal….
The most successful people know what’s important and DO IT FIRST.
Question is….how important are your dreams??
And are they the right dreams??????
“All my possessions for a moment of time.”
This quote speaks to me because I often ask myself what I would give for a moment back. I have spoken with wise and wonderful people who have lost someone close to them due to the ravages of cancer or other time insensitive diseases. These people would give up every penny earned, every opportunity for success, everything imaginable for a single moment to hug or speak with a loved one. To say something left unsaid in fear. To be brave enough to step through fear to gain a life beyond all they imagined…..don’t wait too long my friend.
Action Step: Take a look at your dreams. Rate how important they are to you on a scale of 1-10. If they are above an 8 create five action steps to reaching them. Then add them to your ‘to-do’ list for next week. Take five steps in a week toward your goal and let me know how you made out!
