Let Go and….FLY!

“Follow your heart, but be quiet for a while first. Ask questions, then feel the answer. Learn to trust your heart.”

Have you ever wanted to run away and join the circus?  I have!  And not just on those crazy, how-am-I-going-to-make-it-through-the-day days.  I was always fascinated by the beautiful flyers on the trapeze.

Recently I had the opportunity to turn this dream into a temporary reality.  During the Pinnacle Program (http://www.myblastoff.com/ThePinnacle/), the group was offered the chance to ‘fly’ and of course I was first in line.

The extremely long ladder didn’t scare me off.  Even waiting on the platform for my turn didn’t deter me.  When it was my turn, I shuffled to the very edge of the platform and the helper handed me the bar to hold with one hand while the other hand was still safely wrapped around the sturdy supporting pole.  Then she told me to lean out and let go with the supporting hand so I could hold the bar with both hands and jump off the platform.

That was incredibly frightening!

Have you ever felt comfortable?  So comfortable you didn’t want to let go of what you knew in order to risk something better?  Afraid of the unknown, you held on to something or someone, clinging to that comfort in fear.  Me too.

So she repeated, “Let go and grab the bar!”  Breathe……

And I did.  I let go, grabbed the bar, jumped off the platform and felt an unbelievable freedom as the wind blew through my hair…I felt like I was flying!

I was to let go and fall to the net.  As soon as I did, I let out a yelp and said, “I want to go again!”

The next time we tried throwing our legs over the bar hanging upside down.  Then there was the flip!  And for the grand finale I had to hang upside down then reach out for another person to catch me.

So many emotions and lessons!

  1. One must let go of the good to reach for the great.
  2. Overcoming fear allows you to fly.
  3. Learning to trust will take you to greater heights.
  4. …I could go on.

Life is a risk.  Frightening when you let go of the familiar supporting pole.  But if you never do, you’ll never fly.  Fly baby….like the eagle you are!

Action Step:  Decide what you must let go of in order to fly.  What is holding you back?  A job, a person, or more likely…a mindset.  Find a way to overcome your fear and take a step outside your comfort zone toward your dream.  You will not be disappointed!
